"Bringing Out The Best" 10 1/2" Knit Dishcloth Pattern

I named this dishcloth the way I did because I think that the knitting and crochet really bring out each others best attributes in this pattern. The knitting makes such a nice body for a dish cloth and the crochet adds that fancy finishing touch.

This is the first time I’ve ever written out a pattern for a knit item and this design has not been tested. If you find an error please let me know and I’ll fix it ASAP.

"Bringing Out The Best" 10 1/2" Knit Dishcloth Pattern

Materials:
2 Ozs Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn
Size 7 Knitting Needles
Size “G” Crochet Hook
Tapestry Needle

Special Stitches:
Shell: Work 5 Dc in Specified Sp.

Cast On 18 Sts, being sure to leave a 14” tail for sewing later.
Row 1 and all uneven rows: Knit

Row 2: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, K13, Turn.

Row 4: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, K12, Turn.

Row 6: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, K11, Turn.

Row 8: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, K10, Turn.

Row 10: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, K9, Turn.

Row 12: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, K8, Turn.

Row 14: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, K7, Turn.

Row 16: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, K6, Turn.

Row 18: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, K5, Turn.

Row 20: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, K4, Turn.

Row 22: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, K3, Turn.

Row 24: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, K2, Turn.

Row 26: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, K1, Turn.

Row 28: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, Turn.

Row 30: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, K14, Turn.

Repeat Rows 1-30 six (6) times.

Bind off but do not cut yarn (drop the loop). Use beginning end to weave through ends of rows (pulling snug after that is done) and sew first and last row together. Now you have a pretty circle.

With “G” hook, Pull up dropped loop. Ch1 and turn work. You will now be working in the end of each row (90 Rows)

Rnd 1: Sc in end of each row of dish cloth, working 2 Sc in the end of every 9th row,. Sl St in top of first Sc. (100 Sc)

Rnd 2: Ch1, Sc in same St as Sl St, Ch2, Skip next Sc, *Sc in next Sc, Ch2, Skip next Sc*, Repeat from * to * around. Sl St in top of first Sc. (50 Ch2 Sps)

If you like a 9” Dish cloth you can end it here and weave in your ends.
If you like a larger Dish cloth continue on with next Rnd.

Rnd 3: Sl St in next Ch2 Sp, Ch1, Sc in same Sp as Sl St, *Shell in next Ch2 Sp,
Sc in next Ch2 Sp*, Repeat from * to * around. Sl St in top of first Sc.
(25 Shells, 25 Sc) Fasten Off. Weave in ends

Hi All,
It's been a while since I've posted. Between work and being exhausted thanks to pregnancy, I haven't had much get up and go for designing and writing up my designs. Thanks to going on leave a week early though, I finally got some mojo back SOOOOOOOO here's what I've been up to in the past couple of weeks:

First, I'd like to introduce my newest hat design: Easy Peasy Ear Flap Hat

It's super quick and is so easy to work up. The way the ear flaps are built into the hat makes for less ends to weave in and makes for a very cute (or handsome) looking hat. All it needs is for you to pick out your favorite colors.

Drum Roll Please............

We just found out about 2 hours ago that we are gonna have a little baby boy. He weighs about a pound right now and is 20 weeks, 6 days old. :-) My goodness, he's quite the mover. He never stays still!!! I love our little guy so much.

Next step is to start making some cute little baby boy clothes and blankets and stuff!!! Yay!!

Here are some things I've made within the last week (give or take a day):

Each corner of the pic shows the back side of my scrubbers and the one in the middle shows the scrubby side of my scrubbers. These worked up in under 20 minutes each and were fun and relaxing.

The items pictured above are Octopus Scrubbers. They are reversible. At first they look like Octopus Toys then when you turn them inside out you can see they have scrubbers built in. The left and right Octopus Scrubbers in the first picture are a little different. The left one is twice the size as the one on the left. All three of the Octopus Scrubbers were made with Cotton Yarn and Nylon Netting cut into strips and then crocheted into scrubbers. This is my own design and has not been written up yet.

All those Octopus Scrubbers I made really prompted me to make some Octopus stuffed toys. These were all made within the last few days. I've really enjoyed working them up and I can't wait to make more in other fun colors. Again, this is my own design and has not been written up yet.

These pot holders were made within the last week as well. The blue variegated one was worked in the round so the back looks just like the front. I love that pattern and have made quite a few of them. They work up very quickly.

The 4 potholders all in the same photo are made from the infamous magic square method. My grandma taught me that one MANY, MANY years ago and it's one I'll never forget. They are virtually unbeatable.

All the items above were made to sell. 2 of the Octopus Toys are sold already (just waiting to be picked up), the other one was just for fun. Everything else has been put into some plastic tubs and will be sold at a craft show later this year. All the proceeds from that will be going to Babies Savings (for anything we might need before or after baby is born).

An update on what's been going on in my life!!!

Ok, I owe ya'll an update. It's been a while.

Well, I am now into my second trimester (just a 2 weeks in) and thank goodness some of the morning sickness has lightened up a bit. I'm still having trouble eating and I've lost a little more weight but I'm feeling much better. I am learning my limits as a pregnant woman and learning more about the changes my body is going through.

My fiancee, Andrew, is being very supportive and is VERY excited about being a daddy just as I am VERY excited about being a mommy. I know it's gonna be a challenge and our lives are in the process of changing forever but we are both ready and willing to be the best parents we can possibly be.

We decided 2-3 weeks ago to postpone the wedding till next year. After the decision was made I was extremely relieved. I had been so sick that I knew planning a wedding would make things even worse and I really don't need any more stress than I already have right now.

On to my crochet life as of late........ I have some wonderful news for ya'll. One of my designs has been accepted for Crochet Worlds Dec Issue and I also just found out a week ago that this design will also be featured in the winners circle. I am soooo ecstatic. This has fulfilled a life long dream of mine.

Speaking with my dad yesterday I was reminded of exactly how long I had been dreaming about becoming a published designer. Apparently I had been dreaming about it since I was approximately 10 years old (13 years ago). It took a long time to achieve my goal but I'm so glad I stuck with it.

This post is already really long and I still have pictures to post so I'm gonna finish this post off and get some pictures up of all the things I've been working on.

Recently on Ravelry I had to remind a gal that a particular pattern can be used for charity and personal use only. I had written this at the bottom of the pattern she used yet she chose to ignore it and post openly that her shawl will bring a pretty penny when she sold it. Well, I just found out that she posted a new paragraph on the project page for this shawl saying some very rude things and I'd like to address them.

If you are gonna use someones pattern for the express reason of selling the finished item please email the designer first and get permission. We put a lot of time into our designs and we have our reasons for any policies we may have regarding our patterns.

If you have a problem with our policies just remember: We are the ones who put the time and effort into designing and writing up our patterns. We have more than earned the right to choose how our patterns can be used.

If you have an opinion about a designer and choose to disregard policies, keep it to yourself. It's not very classy to demean someone publicly just because they politely reminded you of something you were trying to ignore.

This one is to the person who decided to show there complete lack of class:
I am luckily very young and will not be dieing anytime soon (Lord willing) but many years down the road when I do pass away the rules will remain the same.
I did not rob this world of anything by reminding you of something that others have willingly complied with. What makes you better than them?
I really do think you're shawl is beautiful. It was very well made and the colors are wonderful.
I'm sorry you felt you had to lash out at me in public after I left a VERY polite comment on your project page.
If you really want to sell things you make you might think about designing your own shawls and such. Then you can sell them without issue. That's something that got me designing. It's really quite freeing.

Extra, Extra, Read all about it!!!!

Hey All,
I have some huge news I would LOVE to share with ya'll!!!

First, I'm pregnant. YAY!! I found out a couple of weeks ago that my Fiancee and I are going to have a baby. I am 8 weeks along. It's so exciting. I've already started making things for baby. It has been tough so far. I've lost quite a bit of weight thanks to my complete lack in appetite. I've tried to eat things but they just make me sick and sometimes things that don't make me sick immediately will have there revenge on me later. Example: A banana I ate this morning. I thought it was something I could safely eat. Well, 5 minutes after I ate it, it went right into our kitchen trash can. Man, that was not a fun time. Andrew was right on the floor with me though. He's a great guy.

Second, I'm getting married (hence, the word "Fiancee"). My Fiancee Andrew and I will be tying the knot July 23rd. It will not be a big wedding. Instead of spending big bucks on a fancy wedding we are gonna be frugal and put the rest of the money into baby's savings. :-D Baby's first after all. I'll have quite a bit of help though and I know I can make our wedding beautiful by using my creativity.

Well everybody, time to sign off and get a working on the baby blanket.

3 Shapes, 1 Square

I'd love to hear what you all think of this: I came up with it this morning after seeing THIS post on crochetville. It took a lot of frogging (rip it, rip it) and reworking the stitches to get the results that I wanted. I'm still not 100% happy with the results but it turned out a whole lot better then the first one I made this morning: So, what do ya'll think? Should I write up the pattern for the square at the beginning of this post? If I did I would post it here as a free pattern. Please feel free to leave a comment telling what you think of the square.

"Simple and Elegant Charm" Afghan

Finally finished this afghan. Hooray!!! I started it about a year ago and for some reason quit working on it just 10 Squares and a border short of being done.

I used RH Fleck in Claret, Black and Aran. The edging is a V-St finished off with Stitch that I cannot remember the name of. The edging took about 2 hours to complete. For each little hill there is 6 sts so you can imagine how many stitches are just in the edging alone...... A LOT!!!

Oh my goodness. There were SOOOOOOO many ends to weave in. I used a tapestry needle on each end to make sure that my afghan would last forever. Can't even tell where I wove the ends in at. I'm a perfectionist in crochet and especially in the finishing of an item.

The afghan measures approx. 64" Long and 50" wide. It's so cuddly and warm. I LOVE IT!!!

I used my "Simple and Elegant Charm" Square Pattern and the Flat Braid Joining Method to join all the squares together as they were made.

WIP: Blue and Black RR Afghan for BF

Hey All,
Here's my latest WIP. It's a blue and black RR Afghan for my BF made with Caron Pounders and measures 37" across so far.

This RR has a FPDC (front post double crochet) in each Valley. Really adds a lot to it I think. I hope to start and finish writing this pattern up on my next 2 days off then I'll have a few testers test it. After that I'll have to decide whether I should list the pattern for sale or post it here, on my blog, for free. We shall see.

"Flower Power" Dish Cloths w/ Scrubbers

I've been a busy little bee lately. Made a whole bunch of my "Never to Pretty to Work" dish cloths then I started playing around with Flowers.

I love flowers and I love making dish cloths with my own scrubbers in them so one day I pulled some pretty colors out and got busy. As you can see I used solid colors with a yellow center. I used variegated colors. I used variegated yellows with a nice brown center to make a beautiful sunflower also. I really had fun with these and made quite a few of them including a red and white one that looks amazing that has not been photographed yet.

"Never to Pretty to Work" Scrubbing Dishcloth

This pattern is being tested right now. It will be listed in my etsy shop in the next few days.

Here is what you will need to complete this dishcloth:
The Tulle used in this pattern can be found HERE, HERE, or at Wal-Mart
in the Bridal Section. The selection at the Etsy Store I have linked to is much
larger though and you can get a lot of tulle for a small price not to mention there service is amazing. They ship very quickly.

Since the Tulle does come in 6” rolls and you only need it to be 3” wide just take
a sharp knife and Saw carefully right through the middle of the roll. You're tulle is now ready to be crocheted into a scrubber.

Each Scrubber takes only 8 yards.

Time sure does fly!!!

Tomorrow I'll be turning 23. I can hardly believe it. This past year has just flown by. We probably won't do anything to exciting. Probably won't even have a birthday party even though I really wanted to have my dad over. My little sister wouldn't be able to make it. She's going to her BF's sisters birthday party in Spokane that same day. My other sister is in Bible College in California and my mom is in New York. Sooooooo, I might not get to see my family on my birthday which would completely suck. My BF hasn't realized exactly how much they mean to me. I hope he does someday though.

Oh gosh. This is just terrible. It's the day before my birthday and I'm crying. Probably has something to do with the fact that once again this year my mom won't be here for my special day and also, the fact that she got married the day before yesterday, is just a little sad for me. Oh, and the fact that my horse (best friend EVER) died last year after 8 years of the most wonderful times a girl could ever ask for. I wish I could turn the clock back a year and do things differently. Maybe then, all this pain I feel when I think about those things either wouldn't exist or would be a little less.

Any who, so sorry about this sad blog post. Hopefully tomorrows will be happier. :-D Happy Birthday to any other March 1st Babies out there.

So FRUSTRATED- Bad Customer Story

Ok. Yesterday (early afternoon) a lady named Mary Jo (not TampaDoll just in case anyone is wondering) ordered a pattern off my etsy site. She immediately sent me an email and a message via etsy demanding to know where to "down load" the pattern she had purchased. I tried to email her the pattern (which is what I do as soon as I receive a pattern order) at which time I got this message from MAILER-DAEMON@mx3.midco.net :
Hi. This is the qmail-send program at mx3.midco.net.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

After receiving that message I sent her another message on etsy telling her that her email was not working and I asked for a working email address so I could get her the pattern. 24 hours later and some negative etsy feed back I did not deserve as well as issuing her a refund and canceling her order, I FINALLY hear from her after my many attempts of contacting her over a long period of time. She again claimed I had horrible customer service (which she also stated in her email and etsy message to me) and claimed that I had not told her how to get the pattern (at the end of the listing for the pattern she purchased it clearly said that I'd be emailing the pattern out).

In that long awaited message she sent to me she said "I certainly will put the word out on Ravely about the service I got from you." Ok. How many times does a person have to try and get a pattern to someone before they just give up. I tried at least 10 times.

My stomach has been in knots all day long. I've worked such a long time to get a good reputation built up and this person is bent on destroying that. I'm just about in tears over it. Makes me just want to quit selling my patterns. If that is what I have to deal with I just don't think it's worth it.

Anyways, If any of you all see any one bad mouthing me any where on the internet please let me know. I'm a hard working individual and I do not deserve to be slandered.

Thanks everyone!! I think I'm gonna go try and crochet again and get rid of this stress.

I had SOOOOO much fun designing this hat and I've made quite a few of them in the past week. I can't help myself. I have to keep trying different color combination's and yarns. So far my favorite ones are the ones I have included in this post.

This pattern has 7 cables running down it with 2 cables running right down through the ear flap. By using a darker main color (MC), a lighter contrasting color (CC)and my pattern you can create some beautiful and eye catching hats for anyone you know or yourself.

Materials:
Approx. 3 ounces Worsted Weight yarn of choice main color (MC)
Approx.2 ounces Worsted Weight yarn of contrasting color (CC)
“H” crochet hook (for smaller size use “G” hook)

Finishing Your Crocheted Item!!!!

I just thought it'd be fun to write about something that is very important in the Art of Crochet- Weaving in ends. It's something that can make or break a project (most literally). If you weave in your ends properly your item can last a very LONGGGGGG time if you don't your item could fall apart very quickly. Could be it falls apart the first time you or someone else wears it or it could fall apart the first time it's washed. You just never know.

A few things I remember when I weave in ends on a project is to:
1. Always use a tapestry needle (or a needle that matches the thread or yarn you are working with). It makes maneuvering the yarn through stitches so much easier and makes it look so much smoother.

2. Don't crochet over the end. Most people are taught to weave in ends that way and it's an almost certain to destroy your project. It's soooo easy for the ends to be tugged at and pulled out of your project.

3. Use multiple rows or rounds if they are available. Doing so will ensure that yarn stays secure and will be more difficult to be pulled at.

4. ALWAYS leave at least 6 inches of yarn. When I first started crocheting I left sometimes only an inch or so of yarn after I was done with a project and I was always so disappointed when my project came unraveled so easily. It was a lesson that was learned the hard way but I'm so glad I did learn. It's saved me a lot of grief.

Remember that when you finish a project off you want who ever receives it to be able to enjoy it for a long time. Whether it's just for friends or family or for clients who purchase your crocheted goods. That is a another reason why it's so important to make sure your item is finished correctly. You don't want an unhappy customer. You want them to come back time, after time and tell others about your quality work.

I know most of the things I've mentioned are things most crocheters already know and practice but if you don't hold this practice very highly I challenge you to challenge the way you weave in your ends. I promise you it will pay you back over and over in the long run.

X's and O's Cross Stitch Brimmed Hat

Ok. There's my newest design thingy. I don't have a pattern for it yet but I think I'm gonna wait a bit to write one up. I have it listed on Etsy. I'm really hoping it sells soon. Hours have been cut at work and I could really use the extra cash.

Right now I'm working on a new design that involves pineapples and headware. It's gonna be sooooo cute. I'll share a pic as soon as it's done. :-D

As far as work and life goes. It's just rolling right along. The days are flying by sooooo fast I can hardly believe it. It seems like as soon as I wake up it's time to go back to bed again. Yikes.

Oooooo, I'm getting a new (used) car soon. I'm so excited. Now if I could just remember the year and brand of the car. :-) I have one last payment to make on it and it's mine. It's really stretched me tight but it will be worth it. My old buick ('86, Century) died on me about a month or two ago so I've been using my BF's car and walking to work. I live close so it's not a huge deal. It's just really cold outside so it can be uncomfortable. Oh well. I've lived around the cold and snow my whole life so I'm pretty used to it.

Well, I've got about 5 hours till I head to work so I'm gonna work on my newest design and browse the internet a little till Andrew gets home.

Cabled Wrist Warmer

Size: With “F” crochet hook- 7 inches around X 7 ½ inches long
With “G” crochet hook- 7 ½ inches around X 8 inches long

Level of Difficulty: Advanced Beginner

Materials:
Approx 4 ounces of Caron Simply Soft or comparable yarn
G/6-4.25 (For smaller warmer use size “F” crochet hook)
Tapestry Needle for weaving in yarns
Yarn bobbin (optional- for 80 inches of yarn measured off at beginning of wrist warmer)

This pattern has not been tested. If you find any errors please leave a comment. If anything confuses you please leave a comment and I'll do my best to help. I tried my hardest to make this pattern understandable but today is one of those days where my brain is just fighting me all the way. Lol Oh well.

I wrote this pattern but the design was made possible thanks to Pam (alostlady2) on wwww.crochetville.org. It was her brilliance that combined the two. So, THANK YOU PAM!!!! :-D (It won't be exactly like hers cause I didn't get a close up of the afghan but I know how the Jacobs Ladder pattern works so I used my base knowledge of that design and the RR design and went from there.

Materials:
You can use any Hook and Any yarn you want.

Double Crochet Finishing Technique Stitch *DcFTS* (any better ideas for a name? Lol)-
(yarn over, insert hook in top of next Dc, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, place hook through loop made by the Ch6, yarn over, pull through Ch6 loop, yarn over, insert hook in top of next Dc, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through remaining 4 loops on hook).

Repeat rnd 4 adding 1 more Dc to each side of Shell until you reach your desired blanket size.

Before you work Finishing Rnd: Twist the first 6 chains and pull the 6 chains after that through (do not twist the second or any other chain after the first one). It will look like the top of a crocheted chain. Repeat that between all 8 hills.

Note: Your very last DcFTS will be worked just like every other DcFTS except you will work the very last set of instructions for that stitch in the top of the Sl St. I really hope that doesn’t confuse ya’ll to much.

Finishing Rnd: Ch3, *Dc in each Dc to Ch2 Sp, Shell in Ch2 Sp, Dc in each Dc to the last Dc (before the Ch6 sp), DcFTS over next Dc, Ch6 loop and Dc*. Repeat from * to * around. Sl St in top of Beg Ch3.

I didn’t make any more rnds after this but if you wanted to you could continue on for a few more rnds in which ever way you like.

Trendy Ear Flap Hats

Over the weekend we had some friends over for Chinese food (great little chinese resturant here) and pony rides for the kids. It was so much fun just chatting and giving rides. Anyways, while we were inside chatting I of course was crocheting away and Mindi (she's sooo nice) asked me if I could make her a hat and I was like sure so she told me what she wanted and I got working on it right away.It looks great on the gal I gave it to and she really likes it. Thanks to her I have 2 or 3 orders for the same hat (one of them will be the same colors too). I really appreciate the plug she's giving them. Took me less than 2 hours (I got the whole entire thing almost completely done before they left). Here are some pics of it.

Isn't the model just rad. She should hit the beach and work on her tan next summer though. LOL. Hmm, I never got a pic of that hat with the tassels on it (on the ties and on the top with a little sl st'd cord coming out of the top). The tassels really make it look cute. I love that hat.

Okay, and the gal that I made the first hat for wanted one for her little boy so when I was at there house yesterday I made this one. Still needs the tassels on the ties and on the top though. It looks really cute on him.

Reserve Champion Pineapple Shawl

I entered a shawl among a few others things at our fair this last August. Yay!! The first clothing kind of wearable I've ever entered. I was SOOOO happy when I saw the reserve champion ribbon. I'd been working towards getting one of those for years now.

The Shawl I entered is from my own Pineapple Shawl design. Now I just need to buckle down and get the pattern written up. Here are the pics!!!

Ok, made 3 more dishcloths today but this is the only one I can tell you about. I made it using this pattern: http://sasw.blogspot.com/2005/01/dishcloths.html . It's a very neat pattern. I've made 3 dishcloths from it so far. I have put a Single Crochet border on them though. On this one I chained 15 or so with a size E crochet hook and then started knitting the square from the circle and so on (to tired to explain right now).

Since I designed this square for my sisters afghan I decided to name it after her. She left today for Montana. My Dad and I will be heading to Montana to visit my sister and some relatives in a couple of weeks. Can't wait. I LOVE Montana. That's where I was born and I know my heart is there. 'Cause I've only sold a few and none recently (probably thanks to this economy) and I really want my patterns to be used even if it means I have to put one up for free once in a while.

Winter Rose 12" Sampler Square
Finished Size: 12" X 12"

Materials:
Size “G” hook (or size “F” if you crochet loose)
Approx. 4 ounces worsted weight yarn of choice
Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends.

Gauge:4 Sc and 4 Sc Rows= 1" Square

Special Stitches:
Popcorn: Dc in indicated space 5 times, take hook out of loop and insert into first dc made,then back into the dropped loop. Pull the loop through the first dc.

Shell: (2 dc, ch2, 2 dc) into indicated space.

Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC): Yarn over, insert hook behind post of stitch (insert hook from front to back of stitch), Yarn over, pull through, Yarn over, (pull through 2 loops) 2X’s. That will complete the FPDC.

Note: If you’d like to make the center a different color fasten off yarn at end of Rnd 2 and join your main color in any Ch2 space and start off with Rnd 3 on through the rest of the pattern. Also, it’s possible you might be close to 12" or very close to 12" when you’re a few rows from being done with the pattern. If that’s the case, just omit the last few rows. The design will still hold itself. The last few rnds just helped me to get up to 12 inches. I’m a fairly tight crocheter.

Hi all, Long time no post. I know. I'm sorry. But I'm back though.

Ok, today WAS really great. Crocheted a little while this morning while I listened to Rush in my tent. Then later on I went out and prepped my hay stack for another 3 tons of hay coming soon for my horse. Then I took a couple pics of my moms dog and my amazing horse.

First Picture:

Precious is my amazingly awesome, over 25 year old horse. She's been my best buddy for over 5 years now. I don't know what I would have done without her these past 5 years. She's been my sanity (If that makes sense).

Second Picture:

Griz (aka grizzly bear) is my moms dog. He loves her and really is like a big lap dog. We all love him and I always feel safe whens he's around. I know that he'd die for me or any of us if he had too.

Angel Wings Shawl Pattern

Here's a shawl pattern I've written within the past month or so.
It's called the Angel Wings Shawl pattern and this name was chosen from about 50-60 names that were suggested to me than voted on by the amazing people over in Crochetville. My home away from home.

Thursday Night Shawl Pattern

Materials:
Approx. 16 ounces of yarn of choice (more if yarn is bulky)
Size "J" crochet hook
Tapestry needle
Note: Any of the above is optional. That’s just what I used.

Special Stitches: Beg Shell, Shell, V St
Shell: (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in space indicated in pattern.
V st: (dc, ch1, dc) in space indicated in pattern.

Note: When told to Shell in Shell, or V st in V st, that means to Shell in the ch2 space in the middle of the Shell st, or V st in the ch1 space in the middle of the shell st.

You will always Shell in the Shells, and V st in the V sts.

Make loop (magic loop or ch3, sl st in first ch to make loop)
Row 1: ch4 (counts as dc, ch1), (Dc, Ch1) 4 times, Dc in loop, turn. (5- ch1 spaces, 6 dc)

Row 5: Ch3, shell in shell, * ch1, dc in each ch1 space to next V st, ch1, V st in V st, ch1, dc in each ch1 space to next shell, ch1, shell in shell*. Repeat from *to*. Dc in top of beg ch3, turn.(3- Shells, 2- V sts, 18- ch1 spaces {including ch1 in V sts})

Repeat Row 5 until desired size. For edging you’ll want to end with an even number of rows so shell edge will work out correctly.

Edging: ch1, turn, sc in first dc, 5 dc in shell, sl st in next ch1 space,* (3 dc in next ch1 space, sl st in next ch1 space) to V st, 5 dc in V st, sl st in next ch1 space, Repeat from ( to) 1 time, 7 dc in shell, sl st in next ch1 space, Repeat from (to) 2 times, 5 dc in shell, sc in top of beg ch3.
Optional: If you’d like you can sc across the end of the rows.
Fasten off yarn. Weave in ends.

Things That Sell Well At Farmers Markets

Heres a list of things that sell well at our Farmers Market:

1. Hats
Some hats that are beanie style (made with cotton or acrylic) and also some hats made of fancier yarns like Chennile and homespun. I make those types of hat with a rolled brim. Very cute and VERY popular here.

2. Little bags for cellphones and for little girls. I have sold quite a few of my ice cream cone purses at our market. They have become quite popular for almost any age girl.

3. Cotton potholders also sell well. I usually make then between 6" and 8" square.
I can get one larger sized potholder out of one little cotton skein of yarn (peaches and cream I believe. You can purchase it at walmart).

4. Dish scrubbers and dishcloths sell pretty well. Not as good as everything else though. Scrubbers are by far the best sellers. I make them with nylon tulle off of a six inch roll (cut the tulle in half though and it's easier to work with and you get a lot more for your money), and then make one that matches its size in cotton and crochet the two together. Dishcloths take longer to make so it's harder to make your moneys worth with them but it doesn't hurt to have a few.

5. Scarves are a good asset to have. Use all types of yarn and make all types of lengths and widths although skinnier ones do sell better. I have noticed that people don't like having bulky scarves around there necks. They want something a little more compact.

6. I have found that a fancier style of wrist warmers sell well. Specificly my Cabled wrist warmers. I use simply soft and they turn out pretty nice and they can be made bigger or smaller just by changing the hook size.

Ok, that's about everything I make to sell. Here's what I charge for them now. I have found the following prices to work great around this area while still allowing me to make plenty of money off of them:

Beanies: $8-$10 depending on cost of materials
Fancy Rolled Brimmed Hats: $12-$15 depending on cost of materials
Little bags and Ice Cream Cone Purses: $3-$5 depending on size of bag and cost of materials
Cotton pot holders in various sizes: $5-$7
Dish Scrubbers/ Dish Cloths: $2-$3 depending on size
Scarves: $15-$20 depending on size and cost of materials
Wrist Warmers: $12 and up depending on style and cost of materials

That's pretty much it on pricing. If I've forgotten an item or a price I'll edit it but I don't think I've forgotten anything.

Farmers Market Today (June 21st)

Howdy Everyone,
Well, today is saturday and for me that means the Farmers Market.
On Farmers Market day I wake up about 6:00 AM (which is actually pretty nice compared to the times that some of the market folks get up) and get ready for the day then I start the fun part..... Packing the van.
Packing the van takes about 10 minutes but it's no easy 10 minutes. I have to load 4- 40-50 pound cement blocks into the back of the van along with my two tables, my big tub of product (crochet), my pop-up tent thing (for lack of a better explanation), table cloths and of course a chair.

After it's all been loaded it's time to hit the road (about 7:20). The drive isn't long, about 10 minutes if you drive speed limit all the way.

Once I get there it's time to set up (yay, my second favorite part)!! Pretty basic really!! Just set up the tent, set up the tables, cover the tables, set out the product, get out my latest crochet project and wait for the people to start showing so that I can SELL.

Selling isn't always easy. Sometimes there alot of people interested and sometimes people just say "oh, that's cute" and walk by.

Now, as I have noticed today, it's good to have all kinds of products. Hats and scarves included. Yes I said Hats and scarves. People aren't just thinking summer all summer long. Alot of people start getting ready for winter early and today I really noticed that. I'll tell ya how I noticed. It's really pretty easy to tell what people are thinking when they're buying heavy winter hats when it's around 80 degrees or warmer outside. Of course, I do live in North Idaho and you just never know what the weather will be like. Just last week we were getting snow. Pretty incredible.

Anyways, after you've sold about all you can, and your pretty sure you could just go home and drop, you pack up your all your stuff again and get ready to unpack it (again). Break down starts at 1:00 pm. That's when the market ends.

Sometimes when the weather's bad you pack up your stuff as quick and you can and then help everyone else pack up there stuff. It's kind of a neighbors helping neighbors sorta thing. Every one helps one another. Very rare if you ask me.

Well, that's about all for a typical Farmers Market day. It's always the same. Get up early, get home around 1:30 or 2:00.

Here's my brief Farmers Market history.

For those of you who don't know me, I've been doing the Farmers Market in Bonners Ferry, Idaho for 5-6 years. I started when I was 14 when an older crocheting friend of mine asked if I'd like to have a booth with her. Of course I said yes cause I didn't have anything better to do and I can't really say I regret it.
The first thing I ever sold was a hat, and it was sold to a lady who had a booth at the market (and still does). After that I sold a lot of dishcloths and did some custom hat orders.

I have met so many neat people over the past few years and made alot of really great friends. It is also so nice to be able to make people smile when they are having a rough day.

Shawl Naming Contest

Hi all, Ok, I need help finding a name for this shawl:

It's original name was The Thurday Night Shawl because I made it on thurday night
but I'm just not happy with that name now. It just doesn't really explain it well enough.

Heading To Montana

Hey all,
Well, i'm heading to montana this weekend to spend some time with my GrandMa and Aunts and Uncles!! It should be fun.
I'll be working on a quilt my Grandma's mom started, and possibly working on fencin' some ground with my aunt, uncle and cousins (that should be a blast. I'm so excited. And I'm dead serious too!).
I think I'll bring all of the afghans I've started and work on them over there.

If I like it enough over there I'm thinking of just moving over there. I really love montana.
Anyways, time to get some stuff done today.

Ok, Here's the pattern for that afghan I'm working on right now. I promised quite a few people on crochetville I'd write out the pattern.
There are some parts of the pattern that were really hard to write so they are probably harder to understand so if ya'll have trouble just leave a comment with the question and I'll help ya out.
Hope you all enjoy the pattern.

Supplies: A lighter color for MC (main color),
a darker color or color for CC ( contrasting color).
A "K" crochet hook works well but it really depends on the yarn you are using and your personal preferences.
Note: All stitches are worked in BL except when instructed to dc in fl of said row.
Always go back to begging of row to start new row.
Chain a multiple of 8 + 6 sts in MC, then fasten off and go back to begginning of ch.
Row1: Attach MC in first ch, ch1, sc in each ch across. Fasten off, leaving approx 3 inch tail.
Row2-4: Attach MC in BL of first sc, ch1, sc in each sc across. Fasten off, leaving approx 3 inch tail.
Row5:Attach CC in BL of first sc, ch1, sc in each sc across. Fasten off, leaving approx 3 inch tail.

A Little Sad

Well ya'll!! I'm a little bummed. A very good friend of mine joined the National Guard a few months ago and just shipped off to bootcamp early yesterday morning. I'm really gonna miss him!!! We've had so many good times together!! Working on worship music for church. Hanging out in town. He's been the most amazing friend I've ever had. I really care about him!!!!
Ya'll are probably thinking that I'm boo hooing about nothing!! He'll be home in a few months and then he'll be home to stay!!! Wrong!! He chose to go Active!! ACTIVE for eight years. Way to long in my book. Yeah, I might see him every once in while. But that won't be soon enough.
Anywho. Enough on that!! I've had my full day of cryin' my eyes out, and now it's time to start back up on my crocheting!! Hmm, I should make him a helmet liner!! I shall.

Row 2-3: v-st in each ch 1 space across, dc in top of ch 3, Ch 3 turn. (10 v-sts, 2 dc- including beg ch 3)

Easy Beanie Pattern

Here is a beanie pattern that I wrote a few years ago. I hope it works out all right. It's easy enough that I had it memorized in no time flat. It's pretty basic.Enjoy, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

Materials: G crochet hook if you crochet loose, H crochet hook if you crochet tight
worsted weight yarn. (Red Heart grey heather is a really popular color for alot of people all ages in this area. Looks real good made up with this beanie pattern.)

Gauge: First two rnds of hat, 2 inches, from side to side.
Ch4 and join with sl st to form ring, ch 1.
Rnd 1: 11 half double in ring, sl st to first hdc, ch 1.
Rnd 2: 2 hdc in next hdc, and in each st around, sl st in first hdc, ch 1.(22 sts)
Rnd 3: 2 hdc in next hdc, (hdc in next hdc, 2 hdc in next) repeat around, sl st to first hdc, ch 1. (33 sts.)
Rnd 4: 2 hdc in next hdc, (hdc in next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) repeat around, sl st to first hdc, ch 1. (44 sts.)
Rnd 5: 2 hdc in next hdc, (hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) repeat around,sl st to first hdc, ch 1. (55 sts).
Rnd 6: 2 hdc in next hdc, (hdc in next 4 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) repeat around, sl st to first hdc, ch 1. (66 sts).

Fold bootie in half, inside out. Start by sewing the stitch on each side of the middle stitch together. Sew until you have a 2 ¼” opening ( 4 ½” around), make sure the sts are matched up, secure end. You should have 19 sts for your opening.
Options:1- For a boy bootie, instead of doing a shell rows ( row 6), just do a plain sc rows.2- An edging also looks nice. I do two rows of sc around top ( without joining), then I do a shell row. Basically row 6, but you repeat what’s between the parenthesis until your row is done. I like to do my edgings in white.

Simple Wrist Warmers

Materials
2-3 ounces of worsted weight yarn.
"H" Hook
Large Blunt Needle
Right Hand
Ch28,
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, and in next 26 ch. Ch 1, turn. (27 sc )
Row 2: sc in each sc across, ch , turn. (27 sc).
Row 3-8: Repeat row 2.
Row 9: sc in next 7 sc, ch 8, skip next 8 sc, Dc in last 12 sc, Ch 1, turn. ( 7sc, 8ch, 12dc=27 stitches)
Row 10: sc in next 12 dc, and each ch, and sc across, ch 1, turn. (27 sc)
Row 11-32: Repeat row 2. At end of row 32, leaving a 12 inch tail, break off yarn, and weave in all ends except for 12 inch tail.
With needle, and 12 inch tail, sew long sides of wrist warmers together with right sides facing each other. Turn right side out.

For Left Hand
Chain 28,
work rows 1-7, same as for right hand.
Row 8: sc in each sc across, chain 3, turn.
Row 9: dc in first 12 sc, chain 8, skip next 8 sc, sc in last 7 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row10: sc in next 7 sc, sc in each of the 8 chains, sc in each of the next 12 dc, chain 1, turn.

Ch 4, and join with sl st to form ring, ch1.
Rnd 1: 10 hdc in ring, sl st to first hdc, ch1. (10 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 hdc in next hdc, and in each st around, sl st in first hdc, ch1. (20 sts)
Rnd 3: 2 hdc in next hdc, ( hdc in next hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) repeat around, sl st in first hdc, ch1. (30 sts)
Rnd 4: 2 hdc in next hdc, ( hdc in next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) repeat around, sl st in first hdc, ch1. (40 sts)
Rnd 5: 2 hdc in next hdc, ( hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) repeat around, sl st in first hdc, ch1. (50 sts)
Rnd 6: 2 hdc in next hdc, ( hdc in next 4 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) repeat around, sl st in first hdc, ch1. (60 sts)
Rnd 7-14: hdc in each hdc around, sl st in first hdc, ch1. (60 sts)
Rnd 15: Ch3, dc in 2nd ch from hook, and next ch, skip next 2 hdc, sl st in next hdc; repeat from *around. Sl st at bottom of ch 3, sl st to top of triangle (ch1). (20 triangles)
Rnd 16: *ch3, dc in 2nd from hook and next ch, sl st in ch1 at top of triangle; repeat from * around. Sl st at bottom of ch3, sl st to top of triangle (ch1). (20 triangles)
Repeat Rnd 16 once more (3 triangle rows)
Last Rnd: *ch3, sl st in ch1 at top of triangle, sl st in first sl st of Rnd. Fasten off, weave in ends.

Okey, This is exciting!!! I've always wanted a blog, but I was afraid to start one because I thought it would be very difficult, and I thought that dial up would make it near impossible. Thankfully I was dead wrong!!

Anyways, My name is Julee and this blog will be a place of crochet and horses!!
Crochet because I love to crochet!! I've designed a few patterns ( somewhere around 10), and hope to design more and sell the designs someday!!
I've been crocheting since I was 6 years old, and I will be 20 on March 1st (yay), so 14 years. 14 wonderful years of crochet!! How exciting!

Horses because I also love them!! I love to ride them!! Smell them!! Everything!!! They are, in my opinion the most beautiful creature ever created!! Thank God for horses!!
