  1. Beautiful shawl, Julee! I found your blog when I was checking out "Crochetville", and saw that you had your own blog. I think it's cool you live in Bonner's Ferry, because I have some acquaintances there. =D --Amanda (18)

  7. Hello J-
I love your angel wings shawl. I have been (attempting) to crochet for many years now, but only making simple things like kitchen towels and dishrags. Now that I am all grown up and a Grandma I am on to other projects...like your shawl. It is my first attempt at crocheting anything bigger than a kitchen towel. IF I ever finish I will send you a pic. Thank you for sharing this delightful pattern.

  8. thank you for the pattern, I love making shawls with it. I make them for a small bistro here on Saba. They are all gifted to a couple of friends who started up the cafe and asked me to make some shawls to keep the guests happy while dining al fresco in the evenings. it is so fun, no money passes between us, I get to try out all kinds of patterns and yarn and the guests are happy

  16. Julee, This shawl is so beautiful. I am making it for a friend who is dealing with cancer. I wanted a shawl that would be like being wrapped in angel wings and this does it just fine.

  19. Julee,
Just a note to say thanks for the free pattern… I like to do that when I come across such things from a real person. Of course a part of me knows every pattern has a creator, but names and contact info aren’t always at hand. In the interest of truth I suppose I should say I am rather compelled to send these notes, my Dear Old Sainted Mother was rather a stickler for thank you notes, and promised me a good old fashion haunting should I fail. I’m inclined to believe her, to my knowledge she only lied to me once, and that at about the age of three; she told me, strait faced, the fried green tomatoes she set before me was meat with seeds. I didn’t fall for the ploy; I was three, not stupid. John

  25. This is a stunning pattern. The only problem I've had is trying to print it. I get the first page of the instructions and couple of blank pages, and a cover page, but nothing beyond row 5. Fortunately, I was able copy the balance of the instructions by hand, but I'm puzzled by the problem with printing.

  26. This is a beautiful pattern. However I cannot figure out the "things" that are in the parenthesis at the end of each row of pattern directions. For example, end of row 2 (1-shell, 2-V sts, 6-ch 1 spaces {including ch 1 in V Sts}) This is definitely NOT a review of the stitches in that row. H-E-L-P!!!

Thank you so much for sharing the pattern, very easy to work up, never heard of the 'shell in shell' stitch, but with your definitive within the instructions it looks very easy to work up.

  35. Hi There! Thank you for sharing such a beautiful pattern. I am so new to crocheting something...it hurts. I was anxious to crochet this shawl until I heard the ladies say they were having trouble...So I want to ask: How would you rate this pattern?? I know how to do all the stitches, it is the reading of the pattern where I get into trouble. So..would this be something like an Intermediate pattern or should a newbie attempt it ?? Thanks so much!

  36. Hi Linda Marie,
Honestly, the pattern is pretty easy. I edited it a bit yesterday and that should help with some of the confusion but if you take time and read the pattern (and read ahead)you should be fine. If you do have a problem though you can email me at this email address: julee_reeves@yahoo.com and I will get back to you asap.
    Thanks

  37. The picture I first saw of your shawl and the instuctions posted do not add up to the picture. There are some filled in spaces on bottom front edges that there are no instuctions for. Have printed picture and hopefully will be able to figure it out. Otherwise, beautiful pattern.

  38. The edging in the example pic here on my blog and in the pdf version on ravelry is the exact same one that the instructions are written for.

  54. Thank you for posting this pattern. It looks like one I had in the 80s for a triangle shell stitch shawl that was so easy. Somehow I lost the pattern and have been looking for it for years. I'm going to start this one tonight.

  55. I made this for a Special Lady in September. Then in October she turned around and gave me two huge bags of yarn that she said she was not going to use. She also told me NOT to make her anything, but to make things for others and that would make her happy. And so I did. But when her birthday came in January, I surprised her with this Angel Wing Shawl. Previously, she was a Nun for 29 years of her life. When I showed her the diagram of the "wings" she was absolutely delighted. Thank you so much for making this pattern available to me so that she could have that much enjoyment.

  66. This is such a beautiful and special pattern. I have made 2 more "Angel Wings" Prayer Shawls in Orchid with white trim and in coffee colors...they both came out so different and Beautiful making them one of a kind. These went to two special ladies in my life, my older sister and my niece, with prayers and blessings to bring them comfort in the loss of my niece. They loved them...Thanks so much for sharing your pattern. Blessings to you, Evelyn

*ANSWER ON SIZES; I made them very large so they can wrap around them completely. 72" across top and the second one was 78" across top. It depends on the size of the person and how big you want to make it. Hope this helps.

  68. This pattern is beautiful - and coincidentally makes a gorgeous Bat Wing costume for babies when you subsitute shell stitches where the V stitches are.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I am lost at the end of row 2 - it says at last chain 1 to do 2 double crochets, chain 2, then 1 double crochet, then to double crochet in top of change 3 - if I do that, it closes it up? I tried dropping down to row one instead of chain 3 of this row 2, and crochet in top of original chain 3 of row 1 and that seems better as it completes shell "somewhat" (where you had 2 dc, ch 2, ONE dc prior instead of full butterfly)....

Please clarify "which" ch 3 to double crochet in to end the rows - I assumed it was the chain 3 the row was started with, but that closes it up instead of it being open at the beginning like your picture.

I am not a novice crocheter, have crocheted several years, but for some reason having trouble at the ends of rows 2-5 due to the "dc in ch 3".

Thanks - Love the pattern and would like to sell to support Albany (Georgia) Pink Breast Cancer walk in March, and am hoping that's okay also.

  70. Love the pattern. I've made several for people who have experienced losses. In the card, I tell then I have left a mistake in the shawl to remind them that angels are not always perfect, but they are still angels with comforting hugs for them. I've had some tears, but great full ones. Thank you for "angel wings".

  71. This is such a pretty pattern. Can't wait to try it out! But first I have a large project I need to finish, lol. Unfortunately I had to rip out months of work because stitch count was way off. Oh, well. I've learnt a very valuable lesson. Always count stitches after your completed row/round. Nope, never gonna make that mistake again.

Anyways thanks for sharing a lovely pattern. I have some nice yarn to try this on. ^_^

  77. Julee- Just found your pattern for Angel Wings. I used to work as a Secretary for our church along with another gal and she and I ended up being best friends. We are both elderly now and retired and unfortunately, I moved away from her, but we still keep in touch every week by phone and luckily for me, she has a son living about 1/2 hour from where we live now, so we do get to spend some time together in the summer months. Because we both are retired and have our own separate talents, mine of course is crocheting. I plan on making your beautiful angel wings prayer shawl for her for either her birthday or for Christmas next year. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful pattern. I too make things for the homeless. I make hats, cowls, mittens and if I am asked to do a lap blanket for someone, I certainly will do it. So who knows, if my church does prayer shawls, I will definitely make your pattern. Who wouldn't want such a beautiful shawl?? Thank you again for this beautiful pattern you are sharing.

  80. I don't understand when it says to " Dc in top of beg ch3, turn" at the end of the beginning rows. When I did this step, it looked like a circle or circled around looking like a circle. Could this be explained clearer so as to me being able to understand how to do this? I had help with the first couple of rows until I got to row 4 or 5. It was okay after that to do. I wish it could be explained better and clearer enough for me to do this on my own. I wanted to do this another color after the one I am working on.
